Worksheet Import - Column in File Method

Worksheet Import - Column in File Method

 Instructions

The instructions below assume the import file contains 2 columns: Animal Tag, Worksheet Name. If you are importing other data, you will need to modify your template and file accordingly.

  1. Start by checking the layout of your file. We will need to adjust our template to map the columns to specific data based on the columns position in the file. You can open the UFIU in HerdMASTER by going to Utilities → Import → Universal File Import Utility.

  2. For our sample data here we will need 2 columns in our template: Animal Tag and Worksheet Name. If you have an existing template you want to modify you can select edit template, or add a new one. It is usually best to add a new template for each of the different file layouts you will be working with to save time in editing them. We can click on the browse button […] to select the file and then click Load Selected File. A preview of the data will then display.

  3. You can click on the columns to be presented with a list of options to map the column to.

If your file has a row with column names, make sure to tick the box marked First Row Contains Column Names or this may import a new animal with those values.

  1. Once you have mapped both columns, you can then click Save and Close.

  1. Now that our template is ready, we can select it from the list of templates and click Next. On the following screen, you will need to select the file and click on Next. You will then be presented with a preview window similar to the template window.

Make sure to verify the data is correct before clicking next on this screen.

  1. You will receive a summary on the next screen. If everything was done correctly, you should see Animals to Worksheet ticked with the number of animals in the file. Click Next and then Import to finish importing the Animals.

If you are attempting to import new animals and the box for New/Updated Animals is 0, then you may need additional columns for an Animal to be created e.g. Date of Birth

  1. Once the import is complete, you will be presented with an Import Summary screen. If any of the imports failed, you can view and export them (using the excel button) in the Import Errors tab. If you are having difficulties, you can send this file to us to analyse.
