Worksheets in HerdMASTER
Often when working with animal data entry, you will want to restrict the number of animals available for selection just to a smaller list. Most HerdMASTER data entry screens will load your worksheet of animals so you can keep better track of your data entry progress, speed up the search for a particular animal and prevent animals being caught up in inadvertent bulk updates.
Worksheet fundamentals
A worksheet is simply a list of animals you wish to perform data entry on. The easiest way of creating a worksheet is to use the “Worksheet Generator” on the Utilities menu.
Enter a name for your worksheet in the prompt. Make it something useful (not just “worksheet 5”), e.g. something related to the set of animals you wish to work with like “2005 Calves Weaning” - something related to the data entry you plan to do, or something relating to that particular set of animals.
If you enter a worksheet name that already exists, the worksheet generator will load that worksheet.
This screen will appear. It shows various filters for finding animals you want to work with:
You can either restrict the list by entering any of the filter criteria on the left. Once you have “Refresh Filtered List” the animals in the “Active Filter” pane will change. Select animals in the “Filtered Animals” list (click on then to make them blue) or “Select All” and press the right arrow, the animals will appear in the “Animals in Worksheet” pane.
Exit the screen by using the X in the top right corner. The form updates your worksheet animal list as you work, so the changes will already be made.
Now if you go to any of the data entry screens, your worksheet will appear in the worksheet drop-down. Selecting your new worksheet will fill the list of available animals on the left hand side.
Selecting the blank line in the Active Worksheet dropdown means that no worksheet will be used, so the animals in the list below will not be restricted by any worksheet.
Managing Worksheets
You can modify worksheets with the Worksheet page (Setup->Worksheets->Animal Worksheets)
The form allows you to move animals in and out of a worksheet using the left/right buttons. Press “Update” to complete the task:
You can also make a worksheet “inactive” which means it will still exist, but won’t appear in your worksheet dropdown (to remove clutter). To make it re-appear in the menu, make it Active.
Deleting a worksheet will remove it altogether.
